Bitter
A poem that demonstrates the author’s allegorical skill.

Against her mother’s wishes
The little girl snuck downstairs
And took a candy from the jar
Sweet and sour were her favorite
She put one in her mouth
The sweet taste overwhelmed her
She grinned at her small rebellion
But the candy went sour much faster than usual
She squinted her eyes at the taste
She waited for it to fade
It never did.
So she spit it out
Hoping the bitter taste would leave her
It never did.

I am a literary editor with a particular interest in fiction and more than six years of professional experience in editorial work.
I have worked in the editorial department of a publishing house, as the copy editor
for an independent graphic design studio, and as a tutor/editor for both academic and creative writing at the collegiate level. My extensive professional experience and academic study, in con-
junction with my work ethic and creativity, enables me to help writers develop and communicate their ideas without imposing my own.
I graduated magna cum laude from Wagner College in the honors program with a B.A.
in Theatre & Speech and a double minor in English and Film & Media Studies. As a result, I have a deep under-
standing of storytelling and character development across a broad range of genres and mediums.
When I’m not editing, I love listening to and playing music, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.
